Monthly Fiber Update: March

Hello there friend,

It’s time for another Monthly Fiber Update, and this one is a good one! This email series will help answer some of the most common questions we receive about our fiber initiative. We‘ll continue to send out information like this every month to keep you up to date on the project, and let you know how to get involved if you choose to do so.

If you missed prior editions, you can read them here. If you prefer not to receive these updates, simply click the “unsubscribe from this list” link at the bottom of this email.

Rock Island Has a New Website

Come one, come all… come and see our brand new website! We have recently launched a new website with more content about our projects and more tools to help you lean about the services we provide. We have a video we produced about our fiber initiative right on the home page, and pages for Rock Island customers to log into their Rock Island account or web mail.

There are a few key areas of the site that we want to call out in this email. They include the following:

1. LTE Fixed Wireless Is Rolling Out

It’s not fiber, but it sure beats sluggish DSL! Announcing Rock Island’s LTE Fixed Wireless Internet service. We recently activated a wireless service in San Juan County to deliver quality broadband to the home and office. Our new LTE Fixed Wireless network is designed to provide Internet download speeds around 10Mbps and beyond.

Check Your Eligibility Here:

Enter the address where you would like to receive service and we’ll let you know if you’re eligible at this time.

Not everyone is eligible for LTE Fixed Wireless service. This is a limited resource and is subject to line-of-sight access to our wireless source and more. Learn more abut our LTE Fixed Wireless on our website.

2. No-Cost Fiber to Your Home

We are excited to announce an opportunity for qualified homeowners to connect to our fiber network at no cost. We have found specific properties around the county who have a fiber build cost equivalent to the amount of our Construction Incentive ($1,500). If you are interested in receiving fiber optic broadband, and Internet speeds up to 200mbps, use our search tool below to see if you are eligible for this unique opportunity.

Check Your Eligibility Here:

Enter the address where you would like to receive service and we’ll let you know if you’re eligible:

This is a very limited opportunity and addresses will be added regularly as we identify more homes that qualify. Learn more abut our Individual Programs on our website.

3. Rock Island Updates

You can now find these Monthly Fiber Updates, as well as information about our network – such as downtime, knows issues or planned outages – all in the Updates section of our new website. Be sure to check these pages if you want to stay up to date. Might even be worth bookmarking this page. Enjoy!

Downtown Eastsound is Getting Fiber!

If you didn’t hear the news, we’re bringing fiber to the Eastsound core! It’s taken months to develop a design and rollout plan, but now we’re moving forward to connect all the homes and businesses in the town of Eastsound that want to be connected. Read this article online about the project and keep an eye out for our crews in Eastsound this spring.

Once we get through Eastsound, we’ll look to the other major hubs around the county to tackle when the time is right. All three island centers are a huge priority for our team, and we look forward to connecting each of them as soon as we can.

Monthly Open Meetings; Lopez Island in March

We started hosting monthly fiber meet-ups last September to open up a longer format, face-to-face dialog with the community about our project. Meetings will rotate every month from island to island. We will announce upcoming meetings and locations here and in our local papers. Be sure to attend at least one of these meetings if you’re interested in learning more about our initiative.

Please join us on Lopez this month. All are welcome and there is no cost for entry.

Here are the details:

Monthly Open Meeting: Join us for this general information session. All are welcome to attend.

Next Meeting: March 2nd2016 – 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

All our best,

The Rock Island Team
