Happy May Everyone!
Spring is here and it’s time for a May Monthly Fiber Update. This email series will help answer some of the most common questions we receive about our fiber initiative. We‘ll continue to send out information like this every month to keep you up to date on the project, and let you know how to get involved if you choose to do so.
If you missed prior editions, you can read them here. If you prefer not to receive these updates, simply click the “unsubscribe from this list” link at the bottom of this email.
The Rock Island team is currently engaged in several projects throughout the county with a long line of fun projects on deck. We’ve been moving as fast as we can with the time and team we have, so thank you for your patience. No other project of this scale has ever been rolled-out in our county to date, and we’re proud to be leading the effort in this historic event!

Do You Have a Calendar Where We Can See Your Events, Meet-ups and Classes?
Why yes we do! Announcing our new online calendar at rockIsland.com. Here we will list all of the events we host, including fiber meet-ups, store events and free computer and streaming classes.
We will continue to add to this calendar over time. If you can think of an event that we’re missing or should have posted, please reach out to us with your thoughts.
Lopez is Getting Internet Relief
It is with great pride that we announce that we can now serve over 35% of Lopez with LTE Fixed Wireless! Lopez Island has long been one of the hardest hit by our Internet crisis. There are several “exhausted” areas where Century Link cannot provide DSL, or even phone. In addition, many claim that they deal with not only slow Internet speeds via DSL (sub 1Mbps), they also deal with intermittent connections, meaning their service is OK sometimes, and other times it just drops.
Take a look at this video we produced to let Lopez Island know that there’s a new option in town. Our fiber-backed LTE Fixed Wireless product offers speeds around 10Mbps down and 1-3Mbps up. Best of all, this service is stable and as reliable as a next-generation wireless network should be.
Monthly Open Meetings; San Juan Island in May
We started hosting monthly fiber meet-ups to open up a longer format, face-to-face dialog with the community about our project. Meetings rotate every month from island to island. We announce upcoming meetings and locations here and in our local papers every week. Be sure to attend at least one of these meetings if you’re interested in learning more. We will be happy to welcome you, shake your hand and answer any questions you may have.
Please join us at the Rock Island office on San Juan this month. All are welcome and there is no cost to entry.
Here are the details:
1) Our Monthly Open Meeting: Join us next for this general information session. All are welcome to attend. We will provide a general update and answer questions from the audience.
Next Meeting: May 11th. from 5:30 – 6:30pm
2) Monthly Group Organizer Meeting: Learn more about organizing your group at this session. We will go over the process and share best practices on how other groups have organized and got fiber to their homes for reasonable rates.
Next Meeting: May 18th, from 5:30 – 6:30pm
Both of May’s meetings will be held in our Friday Harbor location:
Our Friday Harbor Retail Store

We’ll return next month with another edition to our monthly fiber update. In the meantime, thank you for your time and your support. We couldn’t do this without you!
All our best,
The Rock Island Team
