Monthly Fiber Update: February 2018

Get a Hat or T-Shirt with LTE

Winter got you down? We thought we would spread some island cheer by giving away either a Rock Island T-shirt or hat when you sign up for our LTE Fixed Wireless, or add a Rock Island Mesh Network to your existing Rock Island Internet connection every day for the rest of February.

We have a variety of shirts and hats to choose from – all made of quality materials. Pick one of your pleasure when you stop by our Friday Harbor, Eastsound, or Lopez (on Fridays when we visit the Fire Hall) locations.

There is no better time to sign up as an LTE Fixed Wireless customer. Better Internet means more Netflix binging, more social time and good old-fashioned research into all those things you’ve been meaning to learn more about – and can – during the dark, quiet winter.

If you’re already a Rock Island customer and want to get more out of your Wi-Fi experience, give our Mesh Networks a try – existing customers are raving about how good they are and we love them too.

Come on down and take advantage of the quiet season. Switching your Internet or phone providers can take some time, and sure feels better when you can get some quality time with your Rock Island representative. Beat the crowds and come down today.

Get Your Power Backup

Is your modem (and digital phone) connected to a backup battery? Looking at our statistics during the power outage this past weekend we noticed that about 1% of our customers were up and had access to their Internet service during the outage. We do a pretty good job of keeping our service up during an outage, but your home device needs to be powered to take advantage of it.

If you have an Ooma phone, or another VoiP digital phone service in your home or office, having a battery backup system in place during an outage is essential. You should be able to make and receive calls up to 8 hours and beyond during an outage with a Rock Island provided UPS.

Get your backup battery from our Eastsound or Friday Harbor offices before the next outage. Just stop in when you are in town and we can hand you all you need to back up your systems.

Pay $75 or get it for Free?

The cost of a Cyberlink UPS and cable combined from Rock Island is $75, but if you have a Rock Island provided Ooma digital phone, we will give you the combination of battery backup and cable for free. That’s right, free!

We want to make sure that all of our phone customers have access to their lines during an outage, so we’re interested in making this investment in your system. All you need to do is bring us the MAC address located on the bottom of your Ooma device as proof, and we will give you a backup for free. Take a picture, write it down on a piece of paper, we don’t mind. Here is where you’ll find it:

And if you decide you want to take Ooma service when you come down to pick up a battery, we will gladly set you up and send you home with a backup battery and cable.

SOME LOCAL LOVE: Every Cyberlink UPS battery we send out has a power cable designed and assembled in Olga, WA – on Orcas Island – by Kevin Colomby at Superconductor.

Kevin has over 30 years of power engineering under his belt, and spends most of his time working on high-end audio converters for BURL AUDIO. He fit our voltage-converter product into his busy engineering and parenting schedule, and as he says, “LOVES Rock Island LTE internet service!” Thank you Kevin!

OK folks, that concludes one more edition of our Monthly Fiber Update. As always, we want to thank you for your support; we couldn’t do this without you!

All our best,

The Rock Island Team
